I love old school gaming!
I love my PS3. I also love my Wii. I’m a whiz at Guitar Hero and somewhat effective at Call of Duty. But if I had to choose only one console to play for the rest of my life, I’d probably pick my SNES.
Lame, right? But, hear me out. I looove old school gaming. Some of the first video games I played and fell in love with were A Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana and Final Fantasy IV. I love the characters. I love the 16-bit graphics. And I love the difficulty. Those games were hardcore. I remember getting the crap kicked outta me a number of times by Lavos in Chrono Trigger and going back for more. I remember playing Yoshi’s Cookie for 12 hours straight after my parents went to sleep. I also remember crying at the end of Secret of Mana, because I couldn’t believe that, alas, the journey was over.
And, as much as I love gaming now, as much as I love shooting Nazi zombies in Call of Duty: Black Ops and scaling mountain terrain in Uncharted 2, I’ve gotta admit that…it’s just not the same. 15 years ago, being able to flip a switch and enter an imaginary world was kinda a new thing for kids and gamers.
K, I’m gonna go play some SNES now. Later.
